All nature photographers should finally decide on the use of filters. Some photographers swear by them, others want nothing to do with them.

For my own photography, I'm somewhere between these two positions. I always try to capture my subject in natural light without artificial effects … but Sometimes the conditions necessary for best results, I need some help. This is exactly why I have a filter on your camera, a polarizing filter.

A polarizer not very different from polarized sunglasses. Not the color of the image but reduces glare and reflection. Consequently, natural colors may appear stronger and more dynamic in their photos. The most obvious place that this can be seen in the sky, where a hazy sky can become a rich saturated blue.

The difference between the use of the polarizer and a blue filter is that the polarizer using the natural color of the sky, while the color filter adds artificial color. A blue filter, for example, are also activated white clouds a shade of blue, while the polarizer clear and white clouds.

The polarizing filter also increases the contrast between heaven and clouds, causing the formation of clouds are more obvious in context. An attractive cloud formation can be enhanced to become a feature of the effects your real photo.

The trick with a polarizing filter is to find a level that reduces glare and provides a nice color saturation, while retaining a natural look. This is a simple matter to turn the filter on the camera until Is the appropriate level and with experience you get the hang of it.

There is much more a filter polarizer that only a colorful sky. The elimination of glare and reflection can be a great advantage in all situations, even in places you least expect it.

A situation that could surprise in the forest. On an overcast day in the canopy of trees, you would not think the glare to be a problem. But there may be many reflections from the glossy leaves of the forest vegetaion and a polarizing filter can reduce significantly. The result is a more saturated green in every photo. Like the sky, the effect is the same as simply using a color filter, the polarizer does not add artificial color, improves clarity of natural colors.

Of course, the elimination reflections can also turn any photo of the water and shiny surfaces such as glass walls of skyscrapers. With practice, you will find all kinds ways to use the polarizing filter.

Below are some drawbacks. The filter to darken your exposure, you often use rates shutter slower than otherwise (and keep your tripod by hand). The usefulness of the filter also varies depending on time of day, and the angle the sun. Half the time, just be better to remove the polarizer and take your picture without him.

I recommend adding a polarizing filter to your backpack DSLR. You do not can use all the time. With expereince, you learn to judge when to use and when dropped off at the bag, but his picture will be richer for having a polarizing filter handy when the situation demands.
