Need help Toset my tank even better?

I have a 20 gallon tank established (2 months). It has a line filter, heating, airstones. They have 2 albino catfish (1 missing), 2 electric yellow, 2 peacock family. and a silver dollar shark. (1 dead today). I happy with how it is configured, but I know how to configure it. 6foot want a tank I wonder what is the best way to develop it. As I am taking problems with ammonia levels, not only in height is not 0.
